John, JoAnn and Mary Clare Muir, children of Red & Gen Muir who owned Red Muir's Camp on the Wisconsin side of Big Lake of the Cisco Chain of Lakes, about 15 miles west on Hiway B in Land O' Lakes, Wisconsin.  This picture was taken probably in 1951-52.   This was the resort station wagon, maroon with wood side panels.  A hand painted, colorful, bass jumping after an artificial fishing lure the resort name, "Red Muir's Camp" was painted on the side front door panels.

Most of our guests came from Aurora, Illinois.  Middle class families, that owned their own businesses or worked at the same place, came year after year.  The men came the first week of fishing season in a group.  The families came for two weeks after school let out.

House my dad built from lumber he cut and sawed. We lived in this until 1954  when Val Kukinich from Eagle River built our new house.  No wonder we went south for the winter!!!!

We went to stay with my Aunt Clare Riordan in Joliet, Illinois, in the winters until 1955-6.    We would leave Land O' Lakes grade school and start school at St. Raymond's Cathderal where my Aunt Clare worked as a secretary for the bishop and priests.    We were always behind in our education when we arrived in Joliet and grossly ahead when we came back in the spring to Land O' Lakes.

On our trips to Joliet, we would stay at my maternal grandfather's (John Riordan) siblings farm in Plymouth, Wisconsin.   See genealogoy page for ;pictures.

Red Muir, his wife Gen, oldest daughter Mary Clare, son John and youngest daughter JoAnn.  JoAnn is worshipping her dad's hunting dog, a Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Sandy.   Picture taken in parking lot at top of hill by the family home.  The car was brand new in 1953, bought from Red's best friend Herb Dickman in Land O' Lakes, Wis.  Herb owned the Ford Dealership.  This picture was taken probably the summer 1953 or 1954.

John Harold Muir dob 10/01/1945 and Mary Clare Muir Hermans dob 03/21/1944 dom to Michael J. Hermans 08/16/1969, dod 02/19/1996.   This picture was taken in the parking lot as guests were either coming or going, or both.  The information on back of the picture says, "This is a Kodachrome Enlargement Dec 9, 1948."  The actual picture was taken the previous summer and probably sent to Red & Gen at Christmas time.   Red & Gen would get hundreds of Christmas cards, and gifts delivered at Christmas time.   We would get fresh fruit delivered from Florida.   That was better than gold to us.

Red Muir, and his Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Sandy in Red Muir's Camp, Big Lake parking lot.  Sept. 1952.    Other guides and guests parked here when renting a boat, getting minnows, waiting for their cabin to be ready, or leaving to say good bye.   You can see the tree line on the other end of Big Lake in the background.  That is Michigan.  Sandy's ears tell what he is thinking.  Darn tourists!!
